Are You Listening to Your Energy? The Truth About Alignment vs. Resistance

The Invisible Tug-of-War: Obligation vs. Alignment

Have you ever felt torn between what you "should" do and what truly lights you up? Maybe it’s a job, a program, a relationship, or a commitment that once felt right but now weighs on you like an invisible anchor.

You justify staying because:

  • They’ve done so much for me.

  • I made a commitment, and I should honor it.

  • What if I regret leaving?

But deep down, you’re exhausted—and you don’t know why.

Your energy is telling a different story than what you’ve convinced yourself of.

When I first read Dr. Joe Dispenza’s Breaking the Habit of Being Yourself, and he said that 95% of our actions are run by the subconscious, it made me pause. I thought I was doing everything right—personal development, uncovering energy patterns, tracking biofeedback, learning what excites me and what drains me.

Yet, despite all that, I found myself feeling like crap.

I was following my own coaching advice: "Get comfortable with being uncomfortable."

But my biofeedback was telling me something else.

The Comedy Club Experiment: A Lesson in Alignment

Last week (March 11th), I had my graduation event from the Manhattan Comedy School, performing at Gotham Comedy Club—a place where many of the greats have bombed and soared.

Since I was going to miss my final class, I took my classmates’ advice and did an open mic in Brooklyn—a small, tough crowd. I was nervous, but I got through my set, and I felt good.

Then came the big show—a sold-out audience of over 300 people.

I stepped on stage... and for a moment, I froze.

Thankfully, a classmate yelled out something from my set and jogged my memory. I was saved!

But the most impactful moment of the night wasn’t my performance—it was a conversation I had with a staff member that deserves its own article. (More on that next week.)

When I got home, still feeling the exhilaration in my body, I tracked my biofeedback.

  • I was in complete coherence.

  • My heart and brain were synchronized.

  • I felt limitless. Like I was soaring over crystal-clear waters, completely in flow, fearless and free.

But then came the contrast.

The Contrast: Biofeedback Doesn’t Lie

On March 13th, I received a call—and suddenly, that expansive feeling collapsed.

For an entire day, I couldn't shake the feeling. Even the next day (March 14), when I took my biofeedback readings, I could see the impact.

There was another area of my life where I wasn’t feeling aligned.

A commitment I had made not out of true desire, but out of obligation.

I convinced myself that this new experience was stretching me. But my biofeedback showed me it was draining me.

🔬 Biofeedback isn’t just a wellness trend—it’s a tool for self-awareness.

Dave Asprey, widely credited for popularizing the modern biohacking movement, has demonstrated how tracking biometrics can optimize human performance.

I’ve experienced firsthand how measuring alignment and coherence isn’t just theory—it’s a real-world tool for transformation.

I told myself I could make up for:

  • The missed classes

  • The skipped meetings

  • The feeling that I wasn’t showing up fully

And then, maybe, I’d feel in integrity with my word.

But I wasn’t.

Instead of excitement, there was anxiety. Instead of a challenge that invigorated me, there was resistance that exhausted me.

This wasn’t about avoiding discomfort—it was about learning the difference between necessary growth and soul misalignment.

The Energy of Resistance: When the Body Knows First

Science has already proven what ancient wisdom has long taught:

The body speaks before the mind understands.

Think of a time when you:

  • Said yes when you meant no—and later felt resentment creeping in.

  • Pushed through exhaustion because of obligation—only to feel completely drained afterward.

  • Dismissed your inner nudges—only to later realize they were trying to protect you.

The world is going through a course correction—a collective wake-up call.

Just like the stock market, the world moves in cycles—and we always recover.

Yet so many people stay stuck in outdated commitments, ignoring their internal indicators that something isn’t right.

What we often call "stress" is sometimes just misalignment in disguise.

And when we override our instincts long enough, the universe steps in.

The Wake-Up Call: When the Universe Confirms Your Decision

I’ve seen this happen over and over—haven’t you?

  • Someone hesitates to leave a job, and the moment they resign, an unexpected opportunity appears.

  • Someone walks away from a relationship, and suddenly they experience a depth of self-discovery they never imagined.

  • Someone releases a commitment, and within days, the very thing they’ve been waiting for arrives.

Coincidence? No—it’s alignment.

It’s as if the universe is saying: "You weren’t blocked; you were just facing the wrong direction."

Your internal magnet was repelling, your internal generator was out of sync with the desired frequency.

For those who have read my book, Engineered Miracles, you’ll recognize the analogy.

Tracking Your Energy: A Practical Guide to Self-Awareness

One of the biggest lessons in emotional regulation is this: "If you can’t track it, you can’t change it."

The moment I decided to say "Yes" to myself. My biofeedback confirmed it. (March 17th) Within minutes after I received a call with a verbal commitment for my second largest project.

Most people measure success by external metrics—money, promotions, achievements. But what if you started measuring your energy the same way?

Step 1: Identify Your Energy Shifts

  • What lights you up? (Notice where time flies, where joy exists.)

  • What drains you? (Pay attention to what leaves you exhausted.)

Step 2: Use Biofeedback Techniques (No technology required—just awareness.)

  • Heart Rate & Breath Awareness – Do you feel calm and open, or tense and constricted?

  • Body Sensations – Do you feel expanded, or do you feel tightening?

  • Mental Patterns – Are you energized by the thought of something, or does it create dread?

This is why meditation, breathwork, and tracking emotional responses are so powerful. They reveal patterns that the conscious mind often ignores.

Self-Alignment vs. People-Pleasing: The Hardest Shift to Make

Let’s be honest—walking away from commitments that no longer align isn’t easy.

But instead of calling it "hard," let’s reframe it: What’s missing?

When something is missing—like our keys—what’s the first thing we do? We look for them. No hesitation, no overthinking.

Yet, when we feel misalignment in our careers, relationships, or commitments, we don’t act as quickly. We hesitate, justify, or stay stuck in fear.

We need to start breaking the habit of being ourselves, as Dr. Joe Dispenza teaches.

What we’ll find are patterns in our behaviors that often show up as:

  • Not wanting to hurt people

  • Not wanting to be seen as unreliable

  • Fear of regret

But here’s the truth: Staying in misalignment out of obligation is not service—it’s self-betrayal.

When you say no to something that drains you, you are saying yes to your next expansion. When you release something that is no longer yours, you make space for something greater.

Coherence Doesn’t Lie. My Biofeedback Data Shows the Truth

One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that our bodies speak before our minds understand.

When I felt resistance about my decision, my mind tried to rationalize it—but my nervous system already knew the answer.

Below are my actual biofeedback results from the HeartMath app, showing my coherence shifts before, during, and after I made my decision.

  • March 11 (Performance Night) – My coherence level was 4.8, with 563 coherence points. I felt exhilarated and stretched in a way that felt aligned.

  • March 14 (Contemplation & Internal Conflict) – My coherence dropped to 1.7, with only 197 coherence points. Even though I had made my reply quickly, my body was still processing the emotions and internal misalignment.

  • March 17 (Decision Made & Energy Recovered) – My coherence surged to 5.9, with 670 coherence points. Even higher than performance night.

What changed? I stopped resisting alignment.
